If your data file is hosted online — on a supplier portal, your own server, or as a Google Sheets export — you can point Alterify at the URL and it will fetch the latest version automatically every time a sync runs.
When to Use a Remote URL
- Your supplier hosts an updated CSV at a fixed download link.
- You export a Google Sheet as CSV and use the published link.
- Your warehouse or ERP system generates a file at a static URL.
- You want fully automated syncing with no manual file uploads.
How to Set It Up
- From the dashboard, click Get Started (or the + button if you already have profiles).
- Enter a Profile Name (e.g., "Supplier Daily Feed").
- Set Source Type to File Download Link (URL).
- Paste the full URL into the Remote URL field (e.g.,
https://supplier.com/feeds/inventory.csv). - Confirm the File extension matches the file at that URL.
- Map your fields — choose how to match products (SKU or barcode) and which fields to update.
- Click Create.
Running a Sync
Click the Start button next to your profile. Alterify will download the file from your URL, match rows to products in your BigCommerce store, and apply the updates. You can also set up a schedule so this happens automatically.
URL Requirements
- The URL must point directly to a downloadable file — not a webpage with a download button.
- The file at the URL must be in a supported format:
.csv,.txt,.xlsx, or.xls. - The URL must be publicly accessible. If it requires authentication, consider using FTP/SFTP instead.
Common Issues
- Download fails — Make sure the URL returns the file directly. Test by pasting it in your browser — it should start a download, not open a webpage.
- File is empty or corrupted — Check that the source is still generating the file correctly. Try downloading it manually to verify.
- URL changed — If your supplier changes the download link, edit the profile via Edit Settings and update the URL.
