File Upload is the simplest way to get started with Alterify. Upload a CSV or Excel file from your computer and sync its data directly to your BigCommerce store.
Supported File Formats
| Format | Extension |
|---|---|
| Comma-separated values | .csv |
| Plain text (tab or delimiter separated) | .txt |
| Microsoft Excel (modern) | .xlsx |
| Microsoft Excel (legacy) | .xls |
Maximum file size is 30 MB.
How to Set It Up
- From the dashboard, click Get Started (or the + button if you already have profiles).
- Enter a Profile Name (e.g., "Supplier Inventory Upload").
- Set Source Type to File Upload.
- Drag and drop your file into the upload area, or click to browse your computer.
- Confirm the File extension matches your file (
.csv,.txt,.xlsx, or.xls). - Map your fields — choose how to match products (SKU or barcode) and which fields to update.
- Click Create.
Running a Sync
Click the Start button next to your profile on the dashboard. Alterify will read your uploaded file, match rows to products in your BigCommerce store, and apply the updates.
Updating the File
When you receive a new file from your supplier, edit the profile by clicking Edit Settings from the actions dropdown, upload the new file, and click Update. Then run the sync again.
Tip: If you receive updated files frequently, consider switching to a Remote URL or FTP/SFTP source instead. These let Alterify fetch the latest file automatically on each sync — no manual re-upload needed.
Common Issues
- File too large — Make sure your file is under 30 MB. If it's larger, try removing unnecessary columns before uploading.
- Wrong extension selected — The File extension setting must match the actual file type. A
.csvfile saved as.txtshould use the.txtextension. - Column headers not found — Ensure your file has a header row with column names that match what you entered in the field mapping.
